Worlds first Galaxy Nexus owner finds developer ROM on his phone

first_imgThe Galaxy Nexus smartphone went on sale today in the UK. Samsung was on hand at a London Phones4U store to take a photo of the first person to buy one, his name is Alex Ioannou.Alex happily posed for the picture with Galaxy Nexus in hand at around 7am this morning before running home to unpack and start playing with the device. But a few hours later and he had to return to the store for an exchange. On trying to sync the Nexus with Gmail he found the account setup options were missing. There also seemed to be a number of developer options and features available to play with. It turns out that the handset he was sold was inexplicably loaded with an older developer ROM of the Android OS.This could be a bit embarrassing for Samsung and Google depending on what has happened. Either Alex has been sold a rogue developer phone that made it into the first batch that shipped to the UK, or Samsung has somehow managed to load this old developer Android ROM on to a number of their Galaxy Nexus phones.Alex has since switched his phone for another, and it has the expected latest non-developer version of Android on-board. That suggests either a one off mistake by Samsung, or at most a box full of developer phones have made it into circulation this morning.Let’s hope Alex’s second attempt to start using the phone goes more smoothly.More at Engadget and Samsung’s Twitter accountlast_img
