Motorola confirms Droid Bionic delayed until Q3 2011

first_imgThe rumors and speculation swirling around the Droid Bionic have been intense over the past several weeks. The device was supposed to be Motorola‘s first dual-core phone on Verizon Wireless‘ 4G LTE network, and was heralded at CES in January as the slightly lower-powered twin to the Motorola Atrix on AT&T, only with 4G speed to beef it back up. Now, Motorola is weighing in on the matter and confirms that the device will be pushed to Q3 of this year, meaning we won’t see a release until July at the earliest.Even though a leaked Costco release schedule yesterday showed that the Bionic was headed to store shelves as soon as the middle of next month, Droid-Life wasn’t convinced. They’re confident that the upcoming Droid Targa will be released in mid-May, taking the Bionic’s place in the release lineup. At the same time, they were also one of the first sources earlier in the week noting that the Droid Bionic may be on the chopping block. The phone was originally scheduled for a Q2 release.AdChoices广告Motorola’s announcement that the Bionic would be pushed doesn’t take cancellation off the table, however. Many have speculated that the phone’s dual-core processor wasn’t playing well with the LTE radio. Others suggested that the combination ran hot and the phone was suffering from battery life issues and overheating. Motorola could simply wait until Q3 and cancel the device if they’re planning to.Motorola, for its part, said that they needed the additional time to test the device, and that they were adding new features to the phone – not that they were running into problems. They claim that they want to turn the Bionic into an “even better customer experience.” Motorola is keeping quiet on what those features are, and what specifically caused the delay. Regardless, we’ll have to wait until July at least to see what the Bionic has in store.Read more at Uberphones via WSJlast_img
