James DeGale secured a world title shot with a fourth-round stoppage of the previously unbeaten Brandon Gonzales in an IBF final eliminator at Wembley. The Harlesden super-middleweight, chief support to the showdown between IBF and WBA champion Carl Froch and George Groves, imposed himself from the first bell.He landed with a crunching left in the opening seconds and again later in a one-sided first round.Gonzales fared better in the second but the American continued to take shots in the third – and the end came in the following round.DeGale floored him after a lovely combination which culminated in another big left, and although Gonzeles got to his feet and carried on, the fight was stopped as he was absorbing more punishment.Froch, who knocked out Groves, must face DeGale within 120 days or relinquish the IBF belt.See also:Groves crushed by Froch in Wembley clashGroves: I’ll come back better and strongerFollow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebook
The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa’s Northern Cape province. (Image: South African Tourism)Janine ErasmusIn January 2009 rally drivers will embark on a race across three Southern African countries – without a drop of petrol in their tanks. The Zero Rally Africa is only open to cars that run on alternative sources of fuel such as electricity, solar power, hybrid fuel, biofuel and hydrogen. The 12-day race will be entirely carbon-free and, say the organisers, a demonstration of the immense value of sustainable energy in a time of climate change caused in part by fossil fuels. Indian vehicle manufacturer Mahindra will provide the race with biodiesel Scorpio SUVs. A conference on renewable energy and potential applications for development, especially in Southern Africa, will be held in Cape Town after the finish.Scenic route through Southern AfricaThe 4 000km route will lead cars through Zambia and Namibia, taking in some of Africa’s most spectacular scenery, before ending in Cape Town. The objective of the race is to demonstrate that alternate-fuel cars can both cruise the city streets and successfully travel through harsh conditions and across long distances. The drivers will start their engines in Livingstone next to the Victoria Falls in Zambia, heading off for 200km before crossing the Zambezi River at Seskeke, over the Katima Mulilo bridge into Namibia, and into the town of Katima Mulilo. The bridge is part of the so-called Trans-Caprivi Corridor, a 2 500km tar road which connects Zambia’s copper belt with Namibia’s sea port of Walvis Bay. Trade in the area has increased as a result of the new infrastructure, and local businesses are today enjoying an investment, tourism and construction boom. The route then passes through the Caprivi Strip, also known as Itenge, a narrow area of northeast Namibia 480km long and just 80km wide. This is a strategically significant region of Southern Africa which saw much military action during the Rhodesian Bush War from 1970 to 1979, the period of tension between the African National Congress and the South African government from 1965 to 1994, and the Angolan Civil War, a 27-year-long conflict between the ruling MPLA and rebel Unita, in which an estimated 500 000 people lost their lives.Coming out of the Caprivi Strip, the route passes through Grootfontein and the copper- and lead-mining centre of Tsumeb before heading for the world-famous Etosha National Park, one of the world’s finest game reserves and at one time the world’s largest. Etosha is a word used by local Owambo inhabitants, meaning “great white place”.Ancient sitesEtosha is dominated by the 500 km2 Etosha Pan, a mineral pan that covers about 25% of the park. The pan is part of the Kalahari Basin, formed about 1 000-million years ago. During the rainy season shallow rivers and waterholes along the southern edge of the pan attract spectacular herds of game and flocks of wading birds, and here vehicles may have to give way to lion, rhino, elephant and zebra.Out of Etosha, the route heads past the Brandberg (Afrikaans for “fire mountain”), Namibia’s highest mountain, located in the north-western Namib desert, the oldest desert on earth. The region is of great spiritual significance to the San Bushmen and is home to the White Lady rock painting, as well as more than 45 000 individual pieces of rock art.The rally will then turn towards the small tin-mining town of Uis before taking a day’s break in the Namibian capital Windhoek. The next day the group will head south to Rehoboth, Solitaire, and then Aus, situated on the edge of the diamond mining area known as Sperrgebiet. From Aus, the vehicles head for Rosh Pinah, another mining town near the South African border. They will cross into South Africa at Noordoewer on the north bank of the Orange River, which arises in Lesotho’s Maluti mountains some 2 000 km to the east. From here they drive to the corresponding town on the south bank, Vioolsdrift. The route will take the drivers down the west coast of South Africa, passing through the wool-producing area of Calvinia and proceeding to the university town of Stellenbosch in the heart of the Cape Winelands.Stellenbosch is the second-oldest community in the Western Cape, established in 1679 by Simon van der Stel, the governor of the Cape Colony. It is also an important cultural centre, home to the Stellenbosch Conservatoire, the country’s oldest music school. From here it is a short drive to Cape Town, where drivers can finally put their feet up and relax.Renewable fuelThe rally highlights South Africa’s burgeoning alternative-energy sector, with biofuels in particular being developed by a number of different companies. One is Biodiesel One, which manufactures biodiesel from vegetable oils and animal fats. The product is made entirely from recycled cooking oil and used mostly commercially, in generators, diesel equipment, vehicles, and marine vessels.Used cooking oil often presents a problem when it comes to disposal. In many cases the used oil simply goes back into animal food or is even filtered and sold to communities for reuse, even though it is linked to carcinogenesis. Biodiesel One safely disposes of used restaurant oil, and works to educate restaurants about the hazards of reusing vegetable oil too many times.Earlier in 2008 South African fuel manufacturer Sasol became the first company worldwide to win official international approval for its 100% synthetic jet fuel, which will be used in commercial airliners. Tests have shown that the fuel’s lower sulphur content make its emissions lower than those of similar fuels derived from coal.Towards a cleaner South AfricaSouth Africa has large coal deposits and is heavily dependant on the resource for its electricity production. An initiative announced in July 2008 by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism will see less use of coal as an energy source and more development of energy efficient measures. In addition, a carbon emission tax may be imposed on the country’s worst offenders.Minister of Environmental Affairs Marthinus van Schalkwyk briefed parliament on the plan, outlining a scenario that will see greenhouse gas emissions rising to a plateau by 2025 and then starting to decline by 2030 – provided action is taken now.Organisations around the country are already conducting extensive research into alternative sources of fuel. In 2007 the South African National Energy Research Institute, a subsidiary of the Central Energy Fund, awarded three chairs of energy research, worth R10-million (US$1.3-million) over five years, as part of an initiative to boost scientific research in South Africa. The senior chair of energy research for biofuels and other clean alternative fuels was awarded to Prof Emile van Zyl of Stellenbosch University. The university opened its progressive Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies in 2007, training postgraduate students in technical expertise which will help to unlock South Africa’s renewable energy resources, while also developing technology for sustainable energy utilisation. The other two chairs were awarded to Prof Sanette Marx of North West University, and Prof Rosemary Falcon of Wits University.Van Zyl says that South Africa has the potential to become a significant producer of renewable bioenergy and is also poised to become a major player in the biofuel industry. However, for now the biofuel development programme has been cut back because, according to Minister of Minerals and Energy Buyelwa Sonjica, food security and rising food prices are of greater concern. The Department of Minerals and Energy has set up an office to oversee funding for renewable energy technology. Sonjica acknowledges that one of the barriers to the introduction of more renewable energy in local industry is the high capital outlay, and once these initial barriers are overcome more funding for research and development will become available.A windy solutionIn June 2008 South Africa’s first renewable energy initiative to actually contribute to the national grid went live. The Darling wind farm, developed at a cost of R75-million, comprises four turbines of 1.3 MW capacity each, capable of generating 5.2 MW of clean energy in total. Construction of the turbines took two years, and there are plans to add six more 1.3 MW turbines in the future. Power from the plant will feed into Cape Town.A national energy efficiency and demand side management hub, offering a postgraduate programme in both topics, is to be established at the University of Pretoria. The initiative is driven by the South African National Energy Research Institute, which will fund it to the tune of R15-million over five years.Do you have queries or comments about this article? 2 September 2013 Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini on Sunday launched a new project to expand social services to 1 300 of South Africa’s poorest wards, calling on community members to lend their support to the department and its agencies. Project Mikondzo (“footprint” in Xitonga) will see office-bound officials from the department, the National Development Agency and the SA Social Security Agency joining frontline officials in interact with communities in a bid to tackle issues such as poverty, malnutrition, child-headed households, and violence against women. The 1 300 wards form part of 23 district municipalities from seven provinces which have been prioritised by the Cabinet for additional support. The project includes an audit of early childhood development centres and the setting up of a command centre with a toll-free hotline open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also includes a current substance abuse awareness campaign targeting sports and music events, the targeting of gender-based violence and the strengthening of non-profit organisations. Dlamini said the roll-out would help the government reach about two-million children who qualify for child support grants but who have not registered with the SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) to receive grants. Teams of officials have already entered Mpumalanga through the province’s social cluster, while other teams have entered a number of district municipalities across the country. These include the Elias Motswaledi District Municipality in Limpopo, the Amathole, OR Tambo and Alfred Nzo District Municipalities in the Eastern Cape, and the West Rand Municipality in Gauteng. The project will be funded using budget from Sassa and the department, but the department does plan to approach the National Treasury for funding in future financial years. “The service delivery improvements we want to introduce will be informed by our engagements with provincial and municipal authorities, councilors, ward committees and social workers who will provide us with first-hand information about the situation on the ground in their various areas,” Dlamini said.Audit of early childhood development centres The audit of early childhood development centres, which will cover 19 971 registered and unregistered centres, aims to establish among other things the kind of services that these centres offer and the quality of infrastructure and resources available to the centres. The department began auditing centres in the Northern Cape last month and will cover those in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Free State this month, with the audit expected to cover other provinces in October and November. About 1 000 unemployed young people have been recruited and trained to carry out the audit. Dlamini said she also wanted all early childhood development centres to be registered and the practitioners that work in them to be appropriately trained. The department has already begun training caregivers to improve assistance to child and youth-headed households. The department is also carrying out an audit of 92 000 child-headed households that are in the Statistics SA database to ensure compliance with the Children’s Act definition of a child-headed household. Regarding concerns that women were abusing the child-care grant, the minister said a desktop study revealed that most mothers only began applying for grants when their children were three years old, suggesting that the majority were not falling pregnant simply to get hold of a grant. She said there had been an outcry over the department not offering additional services to young mothers receiving grants, but the department was looking into offering extra services to mothers who receive grants. I are not able to say it would not do what it suggests as i can place my hair up and permit it down afterwards and theres no ‘dents’ in it like there is with typical bobbles. On the other hand, having browse some hyped up opinions about this products i was anticipating more, i come across it pretty hard to essentially be in a position to tie my hair up in a ‘tight’ ponytail with this bobble, theres usually a piece that finishes up free and it usually takes numerous tries, and i dont actually like how it feels when i set it up in a pony as it feels alternatively loose and like its not holding the hair again (it holds it perfectly but i obtain it not comfortable). I’m not guaranteed why that is maybe its for the reason that i have thick hair. The only hairstyle i make employing this bobble is a loose messy bun for all over the home.Wonderful product and good price for 3 in the box. Arrived promptly and i didn’t realise but you get three in the box. These do their work very well, as i have prolonged hair and as soon as i’ve tied it up for likely to mattress or the gymnasium at lunchtime, i’m remaining with kinks. Nonetheless, these go away your hair kink no cost. They also depart your hair injury free as they are kinder and will not snag like usual hair ties. Would endorse, only desire i realized about them faster.Terrific products, variety to hair. My hair is curly and bobbles generally get caught in elastic bobbles. It hardly ever takes place with these and they are definitely sturdy. They can be worn comfortably on the wrist. They never depart my hair kinked.Comments from buyers“if people knew how to look after these, they’d get more stars!, Great product, great price, Pretty color but looses its shape quite quickly (after a “These are excellent, love my ponytail as they look to splay it out producing it glimpse fuller.A wonderful option to fabric or rubber hair bands – waterproof, very good for swimming, and fairly stretchy adequate to twist a handful of instances. They keep my hair very well for perform and then i can let it down when i end devoid of stressing about kinks.I initial acquired my pack of invi-bobbles in september 2014, i employed a single of these bobbles until finally the end of august, when it lastly gave way and snapped, when the bobble is not in my hair, it is all over my wrist. These have not got trapped in my hair when i try and just take it out unlike other hairbands and do not give me a headache. I am now on to the future bobble, which with any luck , will previous as prolonged as my initially.Mine have lasted so properly as i experienced listened to that they do extend out around time. I have prolonged but marginally thin hair and i was nervous that these would not grip in my hair nonetheless, they perform really nicely. My hair can get so tangled around regular hairties and i am so happy that these never tug at all. I will certainly order these once more when they have eventually stretched out of use but i have had these for about three months presently and expect to have them for a when additional just before i have to re-obtain.Simple to use does go away a slight mark but not as poor as usual holders.Normally i would have snapped a band in the thirty day period that i have been making use of these but it has my afro hair genuinely effectively. A commenter stated to place the bands in boiling h2o if they extend out much too a lot, and it really will work. My bands have just returned to nearly their initial dimension. I don’t think i am going to go back standard hair bands again. If people realized how to seem after these, they’d get additional stars. I have incredibly thick hair and it does seem to grip it properly. I desired to tighten my hair a minimal, durung use, consequently the four stars. I’m shocked at there staying no treatment details, anything which would fix a ton of issues for customers. They extend out of condition, but you simply just pop them into boiling drinking water for a pair of seconds and it shrinks appropriate back again to form – need to be some sort of thermoset plastic, very intelligent. So several reviews on right here are people moaning that they extend our of form and so it really should only have one or two stars. Please put treatment guidance on description and packet. The good thing is my hairdresser gave me the incredibly hot drinking water trick. These are excellent, love my ponytail as they look to splay it out producing it glimpse fuller.I are not able to say it would not do what it suggests as i can place my hair up and permit it down afterwards and theres no ‘dents’ in it like there is with typical bobbles. I have been making use of them for all over twelve months now & have in no way has just one breakthey at times take a working day or so o go back again to their first size when they have been used, but they usually go again. My 1st pack of 3 lasted me more than twelve months & i gave one to a friend. Only just introduced extra as a again up, but have not experienced to crack them open up but as the two from the firs lot that i had are continue to likely sturdy. They keep my hair very well for perform and then i can let it down when i end devoid of stressing about kinks. They do get stretchy right after some time but get back again to their standard size if you pour boiling water around them. What i do is only go away the in the lavatory when i just take a shower and they’re again to their ordinary sizedon’t discover them supportive ample for my exercises but for working day-to-working day use they’re great and my hair is surely grateful for that.Terrific products, variety to hair. My hair is curly and bobbles generally get caught in elastic bobbles. It hardly ever takes place with these and they are definitely sturdy. They can be worn comfortably on the wrist. They never depart my hair kinked.Simple to use does go away a slight mark but not as poor as usual holders.I’ve utilized these both of those in my mid back again duration thick hair and in my toddlers unruly shoulder duration curls and they have held each of our diverse styles and heads of hair in ideal put all day. Delighted with them, they continue to be put without the need of stressing the hair or scalp and take out effortlessly with no yanking or tugging at all , excellent in soaked or dry hair also. As the other assessments have pointed out, just pop in very hot water and they swiftly and easily get back their authentic form and measurement. Will unquestionably repurchase these, excellent benefit and they do what they really should. Arrived extremely promptly also, thanks.Where have these been all my daily life. It’s just one of these solutions regardless of the brand name or price they do go out of shape, just like a typical hair bobble. Really does lower the volume of hair dropped or stuck. Not the wonderful matters i believed they’d be and i nonetheless get complications when donning a pony tail, which was the explanation i purchased these as they assert you will not. That reported i do use them practically day-to-day, just not for too extensive at a time.I am a huge fan of invisibobbles. I generally tie my fringe and bangs up on a night time when i snooze – otherwise i wake up freaking out that a spider’s strolling on my experience. I utilised to use elastic hair bands (owww in the morning eradicating them and the ensuing hair bump) or the flumpy/fluffy variety kinds, that commonly occur out throughout the night. I normally get 3 wraparound of my hair, making sure it can be not much too tight, two wraps is a little bit loose, but even if i depart it at that, it will not occur out when i snooze. Both way, the only time i at any time have hair bumps in the morning is when i go to rest with wet/damp hair, and to be honest, nothing’s likely to quit the hair bumps thenas anyone who isn’t going to clean their hair each day but who straightens it just about every time i do, working with invisibobbles signifies i never have to restraighten in the early morning. Additional time for coffeeone issue i definitely like employing them for is when i am in the shower. I’ll put on a hair mask and mainly because i have extensive hair i get an invisibobble and tie my hair up in a rubbish-kind of hair bun so i can do the rest of my shower with the hair mask on. Test undertaking that with a hair band on damp hairi began making use of invisibobbles when they 1st arrived out, and they have been very expensive, not like now where by they are seriously a wonderful rate.I like that hair will not get knotted in it, and it arrives out quickly adequate. I would advocate this product. What a good solution, so very simple but is effective terrific in my lengthy curly hair, by no means gets trapped, just the reverse slides out with out a tug, like a lot and recommed.

The Goa government has decided to slash road tax by 50% on purchase of new vehicles for a period of three months to boost the auto industry, State Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said on Tuesday. With festivals like Dussehra and Diwali coming up, the State government’s decision will help the sluggish auto industry, he told PTI.“The Government has decided to reduce the road tax by 50% on purchase of new vehicles for three months from October,” Mr. Godinho said. As per a Transport Department official, there was a decline of 15% to 17% in the overall registration of vehicles in the State during first four months of the current financial year. A total of 19,480 vehicles were registered from April to July this year, he said. Currently, two-wheelers costing up to ₹1.5 lakh are taxed 9% of the vehicle’s cost, and for those in the range of ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh, the tax is 12%.Vehicles costing above ₹3 lakh are charged 15% tax. For four-wheelers up to ₹6 lakh, the tax is 9%, while those upto ₹10 lakh are charged 11%.Vehicles costing ₹10 lakh to ₹15 lakh are charged 11% tax and those costing more have to pay 13%. Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress said the move may benefit the common man, but it also shows that the government has “failed” in economic management.“It may superficially appear that the 50 per cent reduction in road tax will benefit the common man, but the hard truth is that due to the failed economic management of the BJP government, people don’t have the financial strength to buy vehicles,” Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar said.

Mike Henry, in his remarks at the contract signing ceremony held on Tuesday (June 27) at his Maxfield Avenue offices in Kingston, said the project is part of efforts by the Government to create a central Land Transport Authority (LTA).This is in keeping with the Public Sector Master Rationalisation Plan, aimed at transforming the entire public service. The LTA will see the merger of the entities relating to land transport into a single agency in order to streamline operations for greater levels of efficiency.Mr. Henry said the combined resources of the ITA and the TA will assist in streamlining the transport sector creating a “one stop shop.”“It will yield economies of scale, improve efficiency in operations, opportunities for improving commuter services, more effective enforcement of regulations and the modernising of the management of land transport regulation,” he pointed out.Minister Henry said the office will help to address the increase in road crashes in Westmoreland.Westmoreland has recorded the most road deaths since the start of the year, accounting for 34 or approximately 21 per cent of the 160 road fatalities up to June 23.Managing Director for the TA, Cecil Morgan, said the new facility will better serve public transport operators in western Jamaica.“We thought it was important for us to bring our office and services closer to them to facilitate the people of Westmoreland and the adjoining parishes so that they won’t have to journey to Mandeville or St. James to get their licence applications done,” he noted. For his part, Chairman of the ITA, Victor Green, said the new facilities will provide a safer, comfortable and more convenient work environment for the authority’s inspectors, clerical and other staff.“Improved quality of service, efficiency and customer service, while the motoring public seeks to get certificates of fitness, driver’s licences and all the other services offered by the ITA, will be a feature of this new facility,” he pointed out.Chin’s Equipment, Rental and Construction Company Limited is the contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed in early September.
