Women’s Basketball Trio Named to MVC All-Conference Teams

first_imgST. LOUIS – The Drake University women’s basketball team had three student-athletes selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams. Junior Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.) collected first team honors for the third-consecutive season while junior Caitlin Ingle (Runnells, Iowa) earned first team honors for the second straight season. Freshman Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) garnered All-MVC honorable mention accolades along with being named to the MVC All-Freshman Team. Freshman Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.) joined Rhine on the MVC All-Freshman Team. Wendell has started every game so far this season and led the MVC in scoring at 20.3 points per game along with finishing third in steals at 2.1, sixth in field goal percentage at 47.1 percent and tied for 11th in assists per game at 2.7. She reached double figures in every contest and posted a league-high 16 20-point scoring games. Wendell is the first Bulldog since former standout Jill Martin to be named to the MVC first team three times in a career.Ingle, a point guard, has also started every game this season and averaged 10.1 points per game. She averaged a league-leading 6.9 assists per game, which ranks sixth in the nation. Ingle recently passed the 500-assist mark and currently has 506 assists to rank fifth all-time at Drake and 14th all-time in the Valley. She tied her career-high with 15 assists in the win over Evansville on March 3 and had seven games of handing out 10 or more assists. Rhine shined in her first season as a Bulldog. Coming off the bench, she averaged 13.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while leading the conference in shooting at 63.1 percent. Rhine recorded four double-doubles and scored in double digits in 20 games while averaging just 19.6 minutes per game. Bachrodt started all 29 games in her first season and averaged 5.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She finished fifth on the team in three-pointers made with 19. The first-year honors for Bachrodt and Rhine mark the third consecutive season, Drake has placed two on the MVC All-Freshman team.
