While Oct. 6 was the last day of the market, Lewis says there is more to come, like a “Black Fly market” coming later this month. The market not only brought together members of the community, drawing hundreds of people within the three hour time span, but also highlighted women and black owned businesses. Tom Lewis, the Vice President of the Downtown Binghamton Courtyard Market, said that some of the vendors even gained national recognition. Organizers also highlight that food insecurity is a big issue nationwide –and especially here in Downtown Binghamton. They say every organization involved shares their concern and they all encourage everyone to come to the market, adding that they partnered with the Rural Health Network to offer the fruit and vegetable prescription plan and next year plan to offer SNAP. “Triple J Farms, they are a black owned farm based out of Windsor, New York — NPR did a feature on them this year that talked about their strategy to create inter-generational wealth for their family. They are here every week selling eggs and maple syrup and have been a big hit with out customers.” BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Oct. 6 marked the last Downtown Courtyard Market in Binghamton. Juventus lift Italian Cup ROME (AP): Juventus secured the first title of a possible treble by winning the Italian Cup with an authoritative 2-0 victory over Lazio in the final yesterday. Dani Alves gave Juventus an early lead in the first half with a volley, following a long cross from Alex Sandro. Then Leonardo Bonucci was left unmarked to tap in following a corner in the 25th minute. Juventus can clinch the title this weekend, before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League final on June 3. The Bianconeri became the first club to win three straight Italian Cups and brought their record title collection to 12 in the competition. Huddersfield one win away from EPL SHEFFIELD, England (AP): Huddersfield are one victory away from a place in England’s top division for the first time in 45 years after advancing to the second-tier League Championship play-off final yesterday. The team, managed by Germany-born American coach David Wagner, beat Sheffield Wednesday 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out, after the two-legged semi-final match finished 1-1 on aggregate. Huddersfield will play Reading in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium on May 29. Huddersfield, the English champions each year from 1924-26, were last in the top flight in 1972. Reading were demoted from the Premier League after the 2012-13 season. Man United draw again SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP): Sergio Romero showed Manchester United will be in safe hands in the Europa League final by saving an early penalty and producing many other great stops in a 0-0 draw at Southampton in the Premier League yesterday. Filling in for the rested David de Gea, the Argentina goalkeeper tipped aside Manolo Gabbiadini’s sixth-minute spot kick that was awarded for a handball against Eric Bailly, even though video replays the contact was outside the area. Romero was busy early in the second half as he preserved his clean sheet for United, which fielded a slew of fringe players. Monaco win French league title PARIS (AP): Monaco sealed their first French title since 2000 and eighth overall yesterday after goals from teenage striker Kylian Mbappe and Valere Germain secured a 2-0 win over Saint-Etienne. With one match left to play this weekend, Monaco have an unassailable six-point lead over second-place Paris Saint-Germain, the defending champions. Despite losing to Juventus in the Champions League semi-finals, Monaco have thrilled Europe with their attacking football, scoring 155 goals in all competitions and reaching 104 in the league, two more than PSG’s league tally last year. Led by the strike duo of Radamel Falcao and rising star Mbappe, Monaco averaged nearly three goals per game this season to end PSG’s four-year dominance. Unbeaten in the league in 2017, Monaco have also scored in their last 31 league games, a new record during a single season.
