LocalNews Still no bail for Western Union Robbers by: – February 24, 2012 Tweet Sharing is caring! Share 16 Views no discussions Share Share Two young men who were charged with aggravated burglary and assault with intent to rob Western Union have been remanded at the State’s Prison as their bail application has been denied again. On February 3rd, 2012 Police Public Relations Officer Kenth Matthew reported that two disguised men with guns assaulted and robbed the Money Transfer Agency office known as Western Union between 7:30 and 8:05am on Thursday 2nd February. He also reported that one male security guard received a blow to his head while another female employee was severely traumatized and most of the cash had been recovered by the police.Kelvin Alexander and Omisie Odigie of Grand Bay were charged on 6th February, 2012 for robbery of EC$ 218, 695. 91 from Western Union and assault with intent to rob Paula George an employee of that business firm.Police Prosecutor Inspector Claude Weekes objected to bail arguing that the accused if given bail would impede the ongoing investigations and threaten witnesses. Defense Counsel Wayne Norde who represented both accused men told the Court that had intended to make application for bail the following week which he hoped would have been sufficient time for the police to conduct their investigations. On Thursday 23rd February, Norde informed Magistrate Candia Carette-George that his client Kelvin Alexander had been remanded for almost a month and he thinks that the police have had sufficient time to conduct their investigations.Police Prosecutor Inspector Michael Laudat told the Court that he was not the one who made the objection, he did not have that file with him in Court and that attorneys should inform the Bench before making a bail application.Norde replied that the Prosecutions excuse was “poor” stating that the Prosecution should be ready to deal with any matter once the accused are in custody. However Magistrate Carette-George informed Norde that “I prefer if you make the application before whoever denied the bail. This is not a rule but I prefer that as that magistrate would have all the facts before him or her”.Norde told the Court; “I’m in a difficult position today; the Prosecution is not ready, the Court is not ready. I’ll inform the Prosecution in writing that I’m going to make an application for bail on Monday”.Kelvin Alexander has been remanded at the State’s Prison until 27th February, 2012.The other accused Omisie Odigie is also United States citizen and his request for bail has been denied on that basis as it is feared that he is a flight risk. The Preliminary Inquiry is scheduled for 26th July, 2012Dominica Vibes News
ELEAGUE, the esports brand from Turner Sports and IMG, has announced they’re set to engage “a collection of cutting-edge technologies” to enhance the upcoming CS:GO Premier. The tournament which kicks off September 8th, is set to work with a number of companies to provide new ways of viewing the tournament.First, in partnership with their official PC Hardware provider Dell Gaming, they’re set to be bringing biometric analysis to fans. Using eye-tracking technology developed by Tobii, they’re set to be collecting data thanks to the micro projectors and sensors, to show the situational awareness and reaction times to show the audience how players operate at the top level of competition. Video examples of this in operation are available here.Next up is virtual reality brought in from SLIVER.tv, a company already providing services to ESL and DreamHack in CS:GO. Taking the same technology from there, SLIVER allows the VR viewer to watch the game from any point in the map, as well as watching the standard audience stream as if you’re in the game.Dojo Madness’ Shadow.GG platform, displaying a game of CS:GO.Robert Occhialini, VP Esports Products and Technology for Turner Sports talked about the VR addition: “We’re very proud of ELEAGUE’s 2D production. One of the great things about the SLIVER.tv experience is that you get all of the immersive VR experience but you still have the ability to enjoy our production. It made SLIVER.tv a fantastic fit for ELEAGUE. Their platform ubiquity – not just being available via one VR headset – is really remarkable. We like offering the ‘build-a-bear’ type of esports experience with respect to having ultimate viewer choice, but we also realize that many people like to lean back and enjoy the broadcast. What we have [with our 2D production being available inside the 3D rendering] is the sweet spot, the combination of those two.”Finally ELEAGUE bring in Dojo Madness, to take advantage of their Shadow.GG platform. Their innovative platform allows ELEAGUE to show advanced data on the fly, from heatmaps to tactical and statistical replays. This will provide more data on how the teams operate at the highest level of competition.Occhialini added for the use of Shadow.GG: “With traditional sports, the challenge with incorporating advanced analytics is data capture – so I was super intrigued to apply them to a sport that is built on data. A lot of the time in esports today, analysts or fans ask only ‘who won?’ There isn’t a lot of ‘why did they win?’ We see this as the beginning of getting into the ‘why’ teams won.”Esports Insider says: Big new technologies to be taken advantage of by ELEAGUE here. The eye-tracking data is set to be an interesting addition here, allowing the commentary team to provide more details on how players use the screen space to play the game. Dojo Madness joining in through their platform to explain the statistics behind CS:GO is also a good move from Turner.
